TAPS, one of the world’s largest pipeline systems

14th July 2014 - Facts
Did you know that the Trans Alaska Pipeline System has moved almost 17 billion barrels of oil since startup in June 1977?

The 800-mile-long Trans Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS), one of the world’s largest pipeline systems, starts in Prudhoe Bay on Alaska’s North Slope and stretches to Valdez, the northernmost ice-free point in America.

Since 1977 nearly 17 billion barrels of oil have been safely and successfully moved through the system. At peak flow in 1988, 11 pump stations helped to move 2.1 million barrels of oil a day.
